Hill climb champ Filip Kunčer moves to Clio Cup

Filip Kunčer from Podgorica Racing Team will take part in the Clio Cup series with the current fifth generation of the car. The young race driver from Montenegro comes from a motorsport family, as his father, Franjo, was a famous touring car racer, as well as his mother, Svetlana.

Filip, what is behind your decision to enter the Clio Cup in Middle Europe for the full season?
After a few years of hill climb races, I have decided to devote myself completely to circuit racing. I have been following the Clio Cup Middle Europe for the past few years, and I believe it is a serious competition and the perfect step for my racing career. Judging by the level of competition this year, I am very excited and can’t wait to get behind the wheel.

What are your expectations and goals for this season in the Clio Cup?
Honestly, I don’t have any specific expectations. My goals are always to become faster and better. I work every day to develop myself. With some very fast drivers on the track, it will be a significant challenge for me.

Can you share a bit about your journey in motorsports, where you raced, and what are your biggest achievements in your career?
I started racing in my home country of Montenegro when I was 18 years old. Right from the first race, things went very well for me. I showed good potential and worked very hard year after year. Last year, I became the hill climb champion in the Central European zone. So far, it’s the biggest success in my career, but I don’t plan to stop there.

Coming from a family deeply rooted in motorsport, how has this heritage influenced your decision to go racing?
Yes, racing is our life. My father was one of the most successful racing drivers ever in this region, and my mother also had successes in racing, so it was only a matter of time before I would sit behind the wheel. I have tremendous support from my mother, and I believe my dad would be very proud of me. I know he watches over me and keeps me safe.

Given your family’s history in the sport, do you feel any pressure to achieve certain results, or do you focus more on personal goals and enjoyment of the sport?
I don’t feel pressure at all. I enjoy doing what I love and strive to improve myself every day.

What are your aspirations in motorsports, and what are your long-term goals?
My goal is to reach the top of this sport and compete in some of the strongest racing competitions. I understand how challenging and expensive it can be, but I believe in my abilities. With hard work and support from my family and sponsors, I am confident I can achieve it.
