The Clio Cup once again delivered a fantastic motorsport experience. The fourth event of the series took place over the Racing Journal SpeedFest weekend at the Most Autodrome, and there was no shortage of dramatic moments.
Following clavicle surgery, the start of multiple Clio Cup champion Tomáš Pekař was uncertain. However, testing shortly before the race weekend indicated that the still-healing clavicle would not cause significant problems and would not restrict Pekař in any way. Everything returned to normal, and the favourite for this year’s title dominated both home races. By scoring the full 50 points, he reclaimed the lead in the standings, although he had to fight hard for his victories.
On Saturday, Pekař started from pole position and led from the first to the last lap. He was unfazed by the red flags due to Tomas Kazarka’s accident, and he managed the restart behind the safety car perfectly. However, positions behind him changed constantly. Pekař, Bartek Mirecki, David Dziwok, Julian Smiechowski, and Nik Štefančič are all very evenly matched in terms of speed, and if any of them pulls ahead of the competition, it means they have truly found the perfect car setup for the track. Most of the time, however, they fight like lions, and this was the case in both races at Most.
In the first race, Mirecki, Štefančič, Smiechowski, and Dziwok finished behind Pekař. The second race saw even more intense battles for positions and victory. Dziwok started from pole position alongside Smiechowski, but Mirecki moved into the lead until Pekař, who had started from fifth place, worked his way to the front. Once there, he began to pull away from his pursuers, who continued to shuffle positions.
Thus, the second race also became Tomáš Pekař’s triumph, with Smiechowski and Mirecki finishing closely behind. Štefančič ended up in fourth place, and Nico Wuest rounded out the top five this time.
The Clio Cup once again did not disappoint. Each event offers very close and last-minute battles. There are still two events left this season, at the Slovakia Ring and in Brno. We can look forward to more dramatic spectacles.
