The second Twingo Cup race featuring F4 CEZ Academy drivers delivered another spectacular battle for victory, with a group of six leading drivers constantly changing positions. The final result was decided only in a dramatic drag race to the finish after 25 minutes of great performances from all competitors.
Peter Drahoš and David Toth started from the front row, with Noah Bognanni and Lukáš Houlík lining up behind them. Martin Varga and Dylan Stebler occupied the third row, while Pavel Fabry and Thomas Schmidt started from the fourth row. Giacomo Pegazzano and yesterday’s winner Oliver Šteiner lined up on the fifth row.
Just like the day before, the start of the race was very clean. The field charged through the opening lap at Automotodrom Grobnik side by side, with Houlík taking the lead in the final corner. However, several cars were immediately on his rear bumper, as all drivers used the slipstream to constantly exchange positions throughout the field down to 16th place.
Two and even three wide racing through the corners, along with moments of four wide action on the main straight, perfectly illustrated the excellent racing from the F4 CEZ Academy drivers, who fought hard but fairly without any serious contact.
Houlík came under heavy pressure and Varga briefly retook the lead, but the leading group continued swapping positions throughout the opening laps.
Giacomo Pegazzano later reclaimed the lead, while Martin Toth also spent time at the front before Šteiner moved into first place. The leading six car group consisted of Šteiner, Martin Toth, Houlík, Schmidt, Pegazzano and Fabry, all constantly exchanging positions and producing a spectacular show, including a brief moment of five wide racing on the main straight in the closing stages of the race.
Houlík started the final lap in the lead, but Šteiner reclaimed first place once again. Martin Toth attacked on the back straight and took the first position, but the drag race to the finish line completely reshuffled the order. Using the slipstream perfectly, Šteiner crossed the finish line first ahead of Houlík in second and Schmidt in third. Toth dropped to fourth ahead of Pegazzano in fifth, while Fabry finished sixth, only 0.745 seconds behind the winner, although Pegazzano received 5 second penalty after the race and dropped to sixth.
Varga finished a distant seventh, followed by Stebler in eighth, David Toth in ninth and Bognanni rounding out the top 10.
