The Clio Cup Bohemia season comes to an end this weekend in the Hungary. A field of more than 20 cars is gearing up for the final two races at the Balaton Park circuit, with the championship title up for grabs.
The season has been all about Tomáš Pekař and Bartłomiej Mirecki. Since the opening round they’ve dominated the front of the field and until the previous round in Brno, no one had managed to beat them to the top step of the podium.
Mirecki has won five races, the most of any driver, while Pekař has one fewer victory. In Brno, however, Julian Smiechowski broke through to take his first win of the year. Smiechowski now sits third in the standings, only 16 points behind second-placed Mirecki, who has 177 points, trailing leader Pekař by 28. That means the gap between Pekař and Mirecki is now bigger than in previous rounds, but the title fight isn’t over yet — a maximum of 55 points are still available. History at Balaton Park favors Mirecki, as he outscored Pekař in last year’s races there.
There’s also a mathematical chance for Smiechowski to win the title, but it’s a long shot. The Polish driver is more likely to focus on beating his compatriot and moving up to second place in the championship, as his current third place is already fairly secure.
Fourth in the standings is Nikodem Sobczyk, who will be trying to defend his position from this year’s debutant Alxander Spetz. Just eight points separate them, so Sobczyk can’t afford to feel comfortable. The battle for sixth to eighth place is also wide open: Oskar Marszałkowski, Nico Wuest and Matic Preša are split by only 26 points.
The final round of the Clio Cup Bohemia promises to be a real spectacle, with plenty of close battles still to be decided in the championship standings.
The entry list features 26 drivers, a number that has been typical throughout the season, and the series has delivered exciting, closely fought races in all conditions, dry or wet. Don’t miss the chance to witness the final showdown of the Clio Cup Bohemia, because after this weekend you’ll have to wait all winter for the next one.
