Tomáš Pekař runs away with pole position by more than half a second

The second round of the Clio Cup got underway today at the Slovakia Ring, which will host two races, one on Saturday and one on Sunday. Friday was reserved for free practice sessions and qualifying in which Tomáš Pekař from Carpek Racing emerged as the fastest among a field of 21 cars.

Although Pekař and Bartłomiej Mirecki were closely matched during free practice, the fight for the best starting position saw Pekař pull away from the competition. He set a time of 2:26.190, exactly 0.583 seconds faster than the second-fastest driver, Filip Dziwok, who is also Pekař’s teammate.

The battle for second place was extremely tight. Third Oskar Marszałkowski was just 0.022 seconds behind Dziwok, while Mirecki missed out on third place by only 0.003 seconds, ultimately qualifying fourth. Matic Preša and Julian Śmiechowski will start from the third row in tomorrow’s race, with Nikodem Sobczyk and Filip Bartoš lining up on the fourth row.

With the Slovakia Ring stretching nearly six kilometers and featuring long straights and mostly fast, sweeping corners, the fight for podium positions and championship points promises to be intense, as it has been in previous years. A total of 21 cars participated in the qualifying session.
