The Twingo Cup will be part of the Racing Journal Speed Fest race weekend at Autodrom Most, and as always, these little cars are sure to deliver some truly exciting racing. Especially with around twenty drivers entered for the event.
The Twingo Cup kicked off its new season in early June at the Slovakia Ring, with more than twenty cars on the grid. While it’s too early to predict how the season will unfold, there is already one clear favorite for the overall title…
After a two-year break, Nik Štefančič returned to the driver’s seat of the tiny Renault Twingo, a car in which he already claimed two championship titles. With experience gained in the Clio Cup, he showed that even in a smaller, less powerful car with a traditional H-pattern gearbox, he hasn’t lost any of his speed. He won both races at the Slovakia Ring, though he had to fight hard for victory. The early stages of each race saw a tightly packed group of drivers battling it out at the front.
Following the Slovakia Ring round, Štefančič leads the standings with two wins, followed by Marko Blazevski, Luka Grm, Rok Cerar and Stefan Treneski in fifth. Treneski is also a member of the F4 CEZ Academy program. The Slovakia Ring event featured another stage of the academy’s program, with Treneski joined on the grid by Oliver Gmuca, Oliver Šteiner and Lukáš Houlík. The most successful of the group was Treneski, who finished fourth and fifth in the two races.
The second group of F4 CEZ Academy drivers will make their Twingo Cup debut at Autodrom Most. The top performer from this group will join Treneski for a Formula 4 test session.
