It’s race week! Clio Cup kicks off new season with packed grid

This weekend marks the start of a new Clio Cup Bohemia season at the popular high-speed Red Bull Ring in Austria. A fully packed grid of drivers is ready to battle for glory in the 2025 season, featuring several new faces alongside familiar competitors.

The popularity of the Clio Cup continues to rise steadily. The latest generation Clio V is the car every cup racer wants, evidenced by an entry list of over 20 cars for the season opener. Fans can expect highly competitive racing throughout the year, with events taking place at circuits across Central Europe.

Tomáš Pekař, the most experienced and successful driver on the grid, will face strong opposition as he battles to retain his title. Last year, Bartek Mirecki from BM Racing Team fought closely with Pekař, with the championship going down to the final round. This year, Mirecki is joined by teammate Xawery Ossoliński-Nierodka.

However, Pekař’s Carpek Racing team returns with multiple entries. Alongside Pekař himself, the lineup includes Filip Bartoš, Filip Dziwok, Jan Raška and Katarzyna Terlikowska, currently the only female driver registered for the opening race.

In addition to drivers from the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland, the international field includes competitors from Croatia (Vladimir and Tomislav Jalkin, Valter Nežić, Ivan Gustin), Slovenia (Dejan Robida, Miha Primožič, Luka Glazer), Switzerland (Nico and Reto Wuest), Hungary (Peter Palotas), Belgium (Kristoff Cox) and Sweden (Alexander Spetz).

Nikodem Sobczyk from Nikos Racing and Julian Śmiechowski from Janík Motorsport were potential winners last year, but their fight for the top step of the podium never fully materialized. Both are now highly motivated to finally achieve victory.

Janík Motorsport expands to two cars this season, with Śmiechowski joined by fellow countryman Oskar Marszałkowski. Ivan Prantner will also make his anticipated debut with JMT Racing.

Additionally, Clio Cup has introduced a brand-new Team Trophy for the 2025 season, adding another exciting opportunity to the competition. With all Clio Cup cars identical, driver skill and team strategy will be decisive factors in achieving success, promising thrilling battles at venues including Red Bull Ring, Slovakia Ring, Poznan, Most, Brno, and Balaton Park.
