Clio Cup heads to final event of the season in Brno

The final race weekend of the 2024 season is approaching. The Automotodrom Brno will host the last two races of this year’s Clio Cup series, and everything is still to play for. Needless to say, Tomáš Pekař enters the final stage with the upper hand.

The Czech driver, with his orange Renault Clio, currently sits in first place in the drivers‘ standings. Although he missed the June round at Slovakia Ring and lost the lead, he was able to reclaim the top spot thanks to three wins in the last four races. He is, of course, the favourite, holding a comfortable lead of 21 points over second-placed Bartek Mirecki, with 188 points.

However, Cup racing is unpredictable, and with Mirecki close behind, the outcome of the Brno weekend could go either way. Moreover, Mirecki won the last race at Slovakia Ring and is in winning form.

Third in the standings is Nik Štefančič. The former Twingo Cup champion managed to win both races in June at Slovakia Ring and trails Pekař by 30 points. While it’s a significant gap, with 25 points awarded for a win, there is still a chance.

Pekař’s teammate, David Dziwok, has only a slim, mathematical chance of winning the title. The young Polish driver won both races at the Red Bull Ring but has fallen back in the standings due to unfortunate results in one race each weekend since then.

Therefore, Pekař, Mirecki, and Štefančič are the drivers who can make the battle for the championship truly exciting.

Always in the front pack is Julian Smiechowski, who seems to have secured fifth position in the standings. Filip Kunčer, Ivan Pulić, Nikodém Sobczyk, Nico Wuest, and tenth-placed Miha Primožič are drivers who consistently make the race entertaining, especially if the battle at the front fades away.

This year’s Clio Cup featured around 20 drivers on the grid, with 19 of them scoring points. It has been a very competitive field, offering great racing throughout the season, and the final race of 2024 promises to be no different. You won’t want to miss the crowning of the new Clio Cup champion.
