Clio Cup returns to Slovakia Ring

Clio Cup returns to Slovakia Ring

Slovakia Ring will host the Clio Cup series for the second time this season. The drivers came to Slovakia in June and produced an exciting event with the closest finish in first and second position in the history. Can we expect similar results in August?

Around 20 cars will be ready for the penultimate round of the 2024 season, and the battle for the title is nearing its conclusion. Tomáš Pekař returned to the championship lead after his commanding victories on home soil at Autodrom Most. However, unlike his opponents, he hasn’t raced at Slovakia Ring this year, as he missed the June event due to injury.

The championship standings are very tight among the top four positions. Pekař from Carpek Racing leads the table with 141 points. Second is Nik Štefančič with 130 points, Pekař’s teammate David Dziwok has 127 points, and fourth-placed Bartek Mirecki has 124 points. This means that every position in the race is crucial for the championship battle. Although Pekař is the favourite for the overall victory, other drivers have proven their abilities throughout the season, with Mirecki, Dziwok, and Štefančič each securing at least one win. Perhaps another winner will emerge during the Slovakia Ring weekend; this year’s debutant, Julian Śmiechowski, is a very fast driver who has battled for victories in previous races, but his best finish so far is second place.

You can expect those names to be at the front on the track. However, there are many drivers who could challenge for the top positions. Ivan Pulić, Filip Kunčer, and Nikodem Szobczyk are always very close to the top, or even battling for podium finishes. You can never predict the outcome of the race, especially in a season as closely contested as this one.

The spectators will undoubtedly be supporting their local drivers. Tomáš and Marko Kazarka are competing for wins in the Clio Cup Trophy with their older Clio IV models, while in the current Clio V generation, it will be Simon Sikhart.
